SaaS is as much a pricing model as it is a technology model. The obvious benefit of SaaS is that you don’t need to pay a large fee upfront and pay for only what you use. The not-so-obvious, however, probably more important benefit is that there is NO SEPARATE MAINTENANCE FEE.
SaaS software (such as Salesforce.com®) are typically web-based, hosted on a cloud environment and maintained by the SaaS provider itself. The SaaS providers centrally manage and maintain the SaaS software for all of their customers. Therefore, there is no separate maintenance cost and it saves businesses the 20% maintenance fee every year.
